Most inexpensive thermocouples have a vinyl covering which can melt at around 200 °C, this one uses a \u003cstrong\u003efiberglass braid\u003c\/strong\u003e so it can be used in\u003cstrong\u003e high temperature\u003c\/strong\u003e measurements such as heaters and ovens. There's a small piece of heat shrink on the end to keep the fiberglass from fraying. \u003cstrong\u003eIf you're using at \u0026gt;250°C temperatures, simply remove it with a small blade\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBest used with a thermocouple amplifier such as the MAX31855, AD8495 or MAX31856.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePlease note: \u003c\/strong\u003ewe seem to have gotten a few thermocouples that have the red and yellow wires colour-coded wrong.
